Rodolfo Samonte, born in Ermita, Manila in 1941, is a distinguished Filipino artist known for his mastery of reductive and minimalistic art forms. With a rich academic background in Fine Arts and printmaking, Samonte’s works have garnered recognition and accolades both locally and internationally.

Education and Early Influences

Samonte’s artistic journey began at the University of Santo Tomas, where he pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Under the guidance of renowned masters Galo Ocampo and Cenon Rivera, he honed his skills and developed a deep appreciation for various artistic techniques. This formative period laid the foundation for his future endeavors, instilling in him a commitment to precision and a keen eye for detail.

Expanding Horizons: New York and Cleveland

In 1976, Samonte embarked on a transformative journey by pursuing further studies in the United States. He delved into printmaking at the prestigious School of Visual Arts in New York, a city that has long been hailed as a global hub for artistic innovation and experimentation. Additionally, he explored commercial lithography in Cleveland, honing his technical prowess and expanding his artistic repertoire.
