Finding Divine Presence in Art: A Journey of Worship and Beauty

In a chaotic and bustling world, moments of tranquility and spiritual connection can feel rare and precious. Yet, sometimes, they reveal themselves unexpectedly inside… ART CIRCLE CAFE which is located at the back of the Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman.

Tucked away in a bustling city, where black and white artwork exudes a serene calmness and profound love.

Walking into such a space, one can’t help but be captivated by the light and warm energy emanating from the artwork pieces. It’s as if serene thoughts and divine inspiration guided the artists themselves. Indeed, upon closer conversation with one of the artists, it becomes clear that their work is more than just creativity — it’s an act of worship.

Roderick Sta. Ana, a skilled artist, paints with a dedication that goes beyond mere talent or skill. Each stroke of his brush is imbued with reverence, his signature carrying the symbolism of the Holy Trinity.

God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son & The Holy Ghost

Alongside his fellow artist, Glenn Cagandahan, both spend thousands of hours dedicating their creations to the Divine, infusing every piece with love, friendship, and kindness.

In a world where holiness can often feel out of reach, where we stumble and fall into sin, these artists serve as a reminder that worship can take many forms.

It’s not just about attending church or reciting prayers, but about living every moment with intention and authenticity.

Even in our imperfections, there is beauty to be found — in the quiet moments of connection, in the attention to detail, in the love that permeates every aspect of life.

Visiting the Art Circle Gallery café in UP Diliman, one can’t help but be enveloped in a sense of peace and joy.

Surrounded by beauty and authenticity, it’s easy to believe that life is indeed worth living — that amidst the chaos and uncertainty, there is still love and warmth to be found.

In the end, it is in these moments of quiet worship, where art becomes a vessel for divine presence, that we find true meaning and fulfillment.

Whether through a stroke of a brush or a sip of coffee, may we all find our moments of connection and transcendence, and may they remind us of the beauty and wonder that surrounds us every day.

Roderick Sta. Ana

Born in Pasig City in 1979, Roderick Sta. Ana is a highly skilled artist whose journey into the world of fine arts began with his undergraduate studies at Far Eastern University. Under the mentorship of esteemed artists like Nemi Miranda, Weng Unidad, and Ato Hernandez, Sta. Ana honed his craft and explored various artistic disciplines, including decorative painting, fiberglass sculpting, cake decoration, and graphic design.

Despite his diverse interests and exposure to different art forms, Sta. Ana’s passion for fine arts remained unwavering. Driven by a deep-seated desire to pursue his artistic dreams, he returned to the Philippines to establish himself as a renowned fine artist.

Currently, Sta. Ana’s artistic focus centers on blown-up portraiture of flowers, a medium through which he channels his creativity and attention to detail.

For Sta. Ana, painting is not merely a profession — it’s a profound passion that brings him pure happiness. With each stroke of his brush, he creates a world of beauty that captures the essence of his subjects, leaving a lasting impression on all who behold his works.

Glenn Cagandahan

Hailing from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, where he majored in Sculpture, Glenn Cagandahan has established himself as a consistent presence in the national art scene.

Over the years, he has garnered recognition in the Art Association of the Philippines competitions, securing wins from 2004 to 2007, including a notable Second Prize in the Sculpture Category in 2006. In a testament to his talent and appeal, Cagandahan’s sculpture ‘Best Friends’ was internationally auctioned at the Borobudur Auction House in May 2008, where it found a successful buyer.

Cagandahan is deeply invested in elevating the standards of sculpture-making in the Philippines. His goal is to enrich Philippine sculpture as a cultural heritage with its distinct identity, aiming to improve and mobilize the present level of production in the field.

Embracing new methods and materials, he responds to the changing times and technologies by shifting away from traditional sculpture materials like wood, metal, and stone, towards modern mediums such as resin, fiberglass, plastics, and ready-mades.

In Cagandahan’s art, viewers are transported to a realm where tradition meets modernity, where innovation breathes new life into age-old themes. Through his sculptures, he invites us to rediscover our roots while embracing the ever-evolving landscape of Philippine artistry.
