Zynga best known for launching Farmville on Facebook is gearing towards NFT-based gaming and blockchain.
Matt Wolf the current blockchain chief of Zynga explains that they are building a studio and currently hiring crypto experts for senior positions, including creative director and “tokenomics designer: They are aggressive towards their expansion, and expect to fill 70 more positions by the end of 2022.
Zynga wants to empower its players by offering blockchain/NFT games with tie-in game objects that hold unique IDs, that can be sold, adding real-world value and economic layers to their mobile games.
No NFT games have been officially released yet by Zynga, but they are expecting to release a new product by 2023.
However, Wolf was careful to imply that Farmville and Words with Friends will not be releasing any NFT versions to avoid confusing gamers.
Their current mobile game developers will also be given the chance to opt-in or out of the NFT game projects.
Zynga blockchain-based games will be designed for the big whales or investors first. And the company is not expecting on introducing deep gameplays just yet.
What Zynga wants is to create a simple model that investors can play and earn from. With the simple reason that owning and selling NFT items is already enjoyable by itself.
Zynga in partnership with Ubisoft also vowed to release NFT based projects that are low in carbon footprint as part of their commitment to the environment.
Wolf is hopeful and insists on creating an official blockchain gaming council in the years to come to address various issues.
By the time Zynga releases its first blockchain-based game, the mobile gaming company will already be in partnership with Take-Two Interactive, the company behind NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto, as it coincides with their plan to acquire Zynga for $12.7 billion.
